Cherish these special days in simple ways Posted on Wed, November 25th, 2009 Written by: Jennifer Wing, Editor email: editor@syracuseparent.net
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it is important to stop, take a breath and look around. It’s the time of year when there’s a lot going on, and sometimes the little things get lost. It is easy to get caught up in the more commercial aspects of Christmas, along with the parties, gift exchanges and increased workload to make up for time missed during the holidays. Special times don’t need to be gilded with flashy decorations or the latest in must-have toys and technology. They can be as simple as taking time to let your loved ones know that they are your greatest gift. Sit down with your children and read “The Night Before Christmas.” Relax in front of the tree with your spouse and a cup of cocoa (or something with a little kick) and listen to the soft sound of Christmas carols. Share the joy of Hannkah with a neighbor who lives alone. These little moments that take up a big space in your heart and will be treasured by you and your loved ones have nothing to do with receiving gifts, decorating the house or getting holiday bargains. They are about enjoying each other’s company and recognizing that these are the best of times.
