Annual Winterfest & Snowshoe Race set for Jan. 30 On Saturday Jan. 30 Eastern Mountain Sports and Beaver Lake Nature Center are hosting the fourth annual Snowshoe Race & Winterfest. The 5K race begins at 10 a.m. and after the race, participants and visitors can spend the rest of the day learning about winter camping, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Representatives from leading outdoor companies will be available to show the latest equipment and answer questions. Participants can register for the race in advance or the morning of the event at the Visitor Center. The registration charge is $17 and rental snowshoes are available for an additional $5. Beaver Lake Nature Center, an Onondaga County Park, located at 8477 East Mud Lake Road, three miles west of Baldwinsville, off of Route 370. Admission is $3 per car. Snowshoeing clinics planned Beaver Lake Nature Center is offering a snowshoeing clinic at 12:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in February. This clinic will include instructions and a short snowshoe hike to provide participants with a feel for this rapidly growing outdoor activity. Families with little or no snowshoeing experience will especially enjoy this one-hour introduction. Registration is required beginning at 8 a.m. the day of the hike and space is limited. This program will be offered only when snow conditions are acceptable. Please call the Nature Center at 638-2519 that day to register and check conditions. Snowshoes are available to rent for $3. Snowmobile Sundays held at Quaker Steak & Lube For as long as the snow lasts, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday is Snowmobile Sunday at Quaker Steak & Lube. Enjoy nearby snowmobile trails and then stop by the Lube afterwards to warm up with wings and chili, with 95X on site giving away prizes to lucky customers.
